Senator Brown

Five reasons I think Jaxon could grow up to be a really effective politician: 1. Excuses - Jaxon has random excuses for everything and he will go on and on til your eyes glaze over and you have to give in - I don't have to explain why this would be so helpful 2. Talking - He can talk the ears off a horse, or something like that, some is reasonable, some is just nonsense - but he'll make sure you know he's there 3. Drama - Jaxon can make anything dramatic, a tiny poke from Taye can send him into convulsions, a walk down the steps isn't complete without a premeditated crash at the bottom to elicit some attention 4. Energy - More than you've ever seen! 5. Treats - He could eat treats and nothing else, so he'd be perfect for attending party after party and living off appetizers All this and a sparkle in his smile and a fire in his eyes. Should we start campaigning?

Finally

We finally traded in our sweet "came with the house" bathroom lights for some real fixtures. Ahhhh... they are so nice. Out with the old... In with the new...

Fresh Friday: Greek Salad

Lemon Dressing 1/4 cup olive oil 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice, this is juice from one nice juicy lemon 1/2 tsp sugar (or honey) 1 1/2 tsp dijon mustard 1/4 tsp salt 1/8 tsp pepper Salad five cups of spinach four cups of boston lettuce (I sub romaine lettuce here, and usually use much less than nine cups of greens, Costco mixed greens would work great too) 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese 1/4 cup sliced green onions (I never bother) 24 pitted ripe kalamata olives, halved 3 medium tomatoes, cut into wedges 1 medium cucumber, sliced Make it a full meal Marinate 2 chicken breasts in a lemon marinade and cook on grill Mix dressing and toss with salad ingredients, top with sliced grilled chicken. Ahh... this is making my mouth water....

Thrill

Remember how Anne of Green Gables always felt a thrill going through the "white way of delight". I have my own "white way of delight" right here in my neighbourhood and it means spring is here!

I Heart New York!

Wow! What a weekend! I was a little anxious at first stepping out of the parking garage.... the last time I spent any amount of time in New York was a few hours in the lovely central Greyhound station on my infamous trip to BYU. But after a few hours out and about I settled right in. We saw beautiful old buildings, including St. Paul's right next to Ground Zero. Shopped every H&M in Manhattan and a lot of other stores too. Saw a fabulous Broadway Show and drank hot chocolate in Times Square. Slept two blocks from Ground Zero. Ate delicious food on Madison Ave and across from the American Stock Exchange. Attended church in the New York City LDS meeting house/temple. Hiked through central park. Bought art outside the Metropoliltan Museum of Art and conquered the subway. Took a ferry past the Statue of Liberty and walked and walked and walked. Every moment of it was wonderful and exciting. We were silly. And serious. And stayed up way too late talking and talking and talking ev...

Fresh Friday: Granny Bars

These yummy bars are just one of the many things I miss about having Courtney around. So I'm off to see her today, on a real honest to goodness girls trip. See you in a few hours Court! 1/2 cup melted butter 1 cellophane package of graham crackers, crumbled (not the whole box) 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips 1 cup butterscotch chips 1 cup chopped pecans (never used these) 1 1/2 cups of coconut 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk Combine butter and crumbs in a 9X13 pan and press down to make crust. Cover with chocolate and butterscotch chips and coconut. Top with the whole can of sweetened condensed milk and then cook at 350 for 25 minutes. These need lots of time to cool - they are much tastier cold and chewy than they are hot and crumbly.
