Happy thanksgiving!

A little early morning run to get started.

Funny kids

Making grocery shopping lists in preparation for Thanksgiving company: Scotia:  Mom, remember how you said we could get junky cereal????  (They never forget the important stuff) Mom:  Yes. Scotia:  I'm thinking we get something with 10g sugar (per serving) Jaxon:  What!  That's not enough.  How much do we usually have. Scotia: No more than 6g. Jaxon:  I was thinking more like 20g! Jaxon retelling a bible story when the missionaries were over for supper: Jaxon: And then Jesus spawned... Elder: Stop, wait, what did you say?  Do you play mine craft?  (With a knowing smile) Apparently spawned means to appear out of nowhere in mine craft lingo.  I'm of an older generation now and totally clueless :-)

Last Brown kid to crawl but second fastest to walk!

What to do

When it's against your religion to wear pants and the temperature is 22 F outside?  Football socks long enough to meet your shorts!  (Jaxon tells me that one boy in his class only wore pants 3 times last winter - I guess he's trying to set a new record?)

Bluegrass

Emily and I drove down to Carrboro  (the hipster suburb of Chapel Hill) the other night for dinner at Crooks Corner - brussel sprout salad, hoppin John and jalepeno hush puppies and then a bluegrass concert at Cats Cradle .   Who knew that bluegrass is my very favorite music.  I'm a Scythian groupie now.

End of the season

Football season is over and only one broken bone so it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be - if you don't count the psycho screaming, yelling and swearing parents. (There is a reason there is a City of Raleigh police officer on the field for every game and it's not for the kids) Jaxon's team made it to the Super Bowl and lost 7-6. Jaxon made the only touchdown for his team but they couldn't get the extra point. His school PE teacher came to watch. The post season lunch at the buffet restaurant Golden Corral was the icing on the cake. He talked about how amazing it was for two days straight.  You can just get anything you want?!?!  Taye's team got killed in the playoffs but Taye had an awesome tackle. One of those parallel to the ground flying tackles to take out a runner headed for another touchdown. He's back to swim full time but loved his football adventure.  And the broken bone? Wasn't a boy. I was up on the hill near the bleachers walking ...

Fresh Friday: Spaghetti Squash

This is more of a reminder than a recipe. Spaghetti squash makes a yummy base for spaghetti sauce. I cook regular pasta too and let people choose.  Slice squash in half length wise and scoop out the seeds. Place on a baking sheet and add a little butter and salt/pepper. Cook at 350 for 40 minutes or so and then scoop the noodles right out. Yum!

Halloween Capes

For a family of super heroes.

Baptism Day

Scotia was baptized by her dad yesterday.  It was simple and sweet. I changed her into a blessing dress when she was just a babe, helped her change out of her wet clothes and into her dry white dress after her baptism - next time it will be a wedding dress!
