Tyrone picked up Taye at 1 am and we were up at 7 finishing last-minute paperwork online (NCAA docs before he can participate in college sports), washing clothes and packing the car. Taye had to be on campus at 10 for a sports physical so Scotia and I drove him down while Tyrone took Blythe to soccer and finished Taye's laundry. Then he drove down with Jaxon too.

We had fun unpacking what we brought and deciding on the best layout and place for everything. Of course we still needed a few things. (How would you know that the room didn't have nightstands next to the beds?) Art for over the head of the bed, another extension cord and something for next to the bed to set his phone on. Also a few snacks and a little white board. I headed out with the girls to Target while Tyrone took the boys for food and to get Taye’s hair trimmed.

(Side note: Taye moved in a day late because he was in St Thomas. But that meant the crowds and lines had already come and gone. We got on and off the elevator with ease, his roommate was already unpacked and out so we had plenty of time to carefully unpack and organize and get settled without feeling rushed. I highly recommend this )

On the way to Target I swerved into the Habitat Restore and found this great wood box. Perfect height for bedside table. (I measured; hip height before we headed out to Target) Bought a can of spray paint at Target and sprayed it in an empty parking lot on the way back.

We finished Taye’s room and said goodbye. He was heading off to meet friends. He started crying and I cried and we all hugged goodbye. And then we just left our grown child all alone in his room and walked out the door.
I’m checking the calendar for how long til the first swim meet... so glad I have a reason to see him soon.
ReplyDeleteGrown body, but still needs his family. Taye is living the dream, into this next wonderful era, with a cheering family behind him! I love seeing that little wooden bowl he made in grandpas shop on his shelf. I feel as though we, too, are part of his past and future. Be the change you want to see in the world. love, nana r.
