A day in the life

Blythe is supposed to head back to in person school next week.  I live in constant fear that they will shut it all down again... but nothing I can do about that right now.  I thought you might like to hear about a day in the life of our home school survival since March....

Spoiled

I felt so spoiled this birthday week. I am a regular human being- nothing fancy. Not particularly funny or extremely smart or famous or rich or cute or stylish or any great connections. And yet my friends show up for me constantly in wonderful ways. I feel so loved!

Happy Birthday to me

Courtney and I must have planned this adventure when things seemed like they were opening up. We’ve talked about hiking in southern Utah for awhile now and I’m so happy to have finally crossed it off the list. It was an awesome adventure!  This first day we hiked up Milcreek Canyon in Salt Lake and I was huffing and puffing the whole way. Mountain hiking is no joke. We ate lunch on the patio at Cafe Rio.

Grown up

Taye's swim conference championship ring arrived.  Made me sad all over again that ECU cut their most successful team.  What were they thinking?

Wild animals

Blythe is tracked out (how, you might ask, does a child who hasn’t been to real school in nearly 8 months need a vacation!?!?) so Tyrone planned a trip to the zoo. Her favorite neighbor friend and his dad came with too. Blythe loves animals, the weather was cool, no crowds.  Her favorite animal was the lion.

Pumpkin patch

Tyrone’s new work schedule has more days at home. He took Blythe to the pumpkin patch for hay bale jumping, corn maze exploring and pumpkin picking.  Tyrone said they did the corn maze two or three times and then Blythe said she was going to “do it by herself”. That’s the perfect way to learn.

Two minute commute

Last week Tyrone left his job at a small rural hospital in Dunn, NC.  It's 60 miles away - so an hour commute coming and going.  The pay was great and the schedule amazing! (three 8's and one 24 each week, with every fifth week off) But the commute was starting to wear on him.  He has happily accepted a position at the fancy little community hospital in our neighborhood a whopping two minutes down the road.  The schedule has longer shifts but the commute can't be beat! He's going to miss his Dunn co-workers...

The Color of Law

Tyrone reviewed this book on Facebook and I thought I would share here for those who don't follow:
