Good life

Isabelle came back to Raleigh with us and hung out for a few days. Scotia was so happy to have a friend to bike to the snack shop and hang out with. Come back Isabelle!!

Fun basketball article

I hope we get to play high school basketball this year. Can’t wait to see what Jaxon does next.

Holiday weekend

Scotia and Isabelle biked the lakefront in Chicago and then flew to PA to meet us.

Weekend Wisconsin trip

Courtney and I had a brilliant plan to surprise Emily for her birthday after a long lonely spring. Then we thought I should take Scotia to see Isabelle and then of course Tobias should come too, then we couldn’t leave Blythe. So we all crashed Emily’s house for a long weekend.

The end of ECU swim

This is such heart breaking news. A few weeks after shelter in place started ECU athletics announced that in order to save money they were cutting Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive. The athletic program is running a large deficit and this was one step to fix it.   Taye received many emails from other teams looking to recruit him, but he loves ECU and his friends there so he is staying put. His swim career is over just like that. We are all so sad... college swim was amazing. I loved attending the meets.  Taye has moments of anger over the incredible amount of work it took to get there and how easily someone just tossed it all away.  In hindsight he wishes he played a sport like football that makes money.   Swimming was never the end goal though - an athletic outlet, great friends, an opportunity to challenge himself. Next step is getting a degree and that’s what he’s focusing on now.   Moving on...

Pandemic survival 5

I’m getting tired. It’s a lot of kids and a lot of mess all while trying to work.  I sat down and calculated the other day and Tyrone's pay is down 40% since the pandemic started.  We are all surviving though...  Lots of fishing for the big boys

The one article

Like you I have read so many stories and articles and commentary on Black Lives Matter. I am only sharing one article and this is the one: There's racial bias in our police systems.  Here's the overwhelming proof.  You don't have to read it all the way through.  The first few studies will give you the main idea.   Then spend some time imagining your life in that world. Constantly harassed, perpetually charged random fines you can barely afford to pay, searched, embarrassed, always fearful.  And then imagine the rest of the country just goes about life like nothing is wrong - giving the police bigger and bigger budgets every year.  I have seen this system in process for the last five years.  It is real.  It grinds people down who are trying to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.  It is unconscionable and our ignorance and innocence perpetuates it.
