Ponhook Lake

We spent a spectacular afternoon at Taryn’s cottage on Ponhook Lake. Ginelle came too with her daughter. The three of us were a yearbook force in high school - editing the school yearbook in 9th, 11th and 12th grade. That’s a lot of deadlines. Ginelle’s dad was my homeroom teacher in sixth grade and was really wonderful. I have great memories of him reading us the funniest books every day after lunch. Taryn’s dad was a teacher too and I remember one monumental evening at her house chatting with her parents and trying to figure out college. I was considering Ricks or BYU and her dad thought I should just go for broke. BYU was the only school I applied to. We swam in the lake, the girls ran around, the men played a game similar to cornhole and we ate yummy BBQ food. Such a fun afternoon.

Lunenburg

Tyrone, Blythe, Nana and I spent a beautiful day in Lunenburg.  The old town section is a United Nations World Heritage Site and it's just a lovely spot.  Beautiful, very old, very colorful houses and a waterfront that is just gorgeous with boats coming and going. My mom grew up in the area and in high school lived in an apartment in one of the old town houses with a bedroom window over looking the harbour.  We wandered around, ate scallops for lunch and ice cream for a snack and bought a little piece of art from a shop my mom's friend owns. Always a lovely day.

Ten Mile Lake and Nickerson's Pond

Ten Mile Lake is one of my favorites.  Taye practiced his sailing, the kids did some coanoeing and the water was warm enough to swim. Tyrone and I biked around Western Head early one morning.  It's a ten mile loop out along the harbour to the wide open ocean and back in.  A favorite form of exercise when I was a kid. (Birds Eye view here.) Nickerson's pond is new to me.  It had a rope swing which the kids loved.  Grandpa went first to show them how it's done (He's only 77!) We grabbed fish and chips from a food truck downtown one night.

While the men were out shooting guns at the gravel pit the girls went out to Western Head to climb on the rocks. It was foggy and the fog horn was on. So beautiful!

Keji adjunct

Our first adventure was out to the Keji Adjunct .  It's a small seaside section of the big Keji National Park.  It's a mile hike down to a wide open undeveloped shoreline and really spectucular.  The best part is all the seals you can see swimming around, lounging on rocks and barking.  The water was freezing cold and the kids were testing each other to see who could stay in the longest. We stopped at the "Bear Hole" on the Broad River on the way home to get some swimming in (you don't swim in the ocean).

Nana and Grandpa’s house

We are home from a wonderful trip to my parent's house in Nova Scotia.  We drove to Portland, Maine and took the ferry across to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.  It took a little longer than flying but cost a lot less and we didn't have to rent a car. We spent the whole week with my parents doing things around town.  They are super easy to hang out with and are always up for an adventure.  We did water/swimming every day plus the boys went shooting with Grandpa, we did some shopping downtown, kids all made treasures in Grandpa's wood shop, Grandpa taught Taye to drive a stick shift, we picked lots of food from the garden and generally had a really great time doing things that are totally out of our normal "city" routine. My parents live in their "retirement house" - a three bedroom one-level situated on a lovely pond. The house is full of antiques, items they have collected over the years and lots of furniture that my dad built.  He is prolific in the woodsho...
