Kid quotes

I lift up a rug to clean under it and Blythe says, "It’s magic dust!”

Jaxon said at the dinner table, “I don’t want a girl riding my butt”. It was spring of 2020 and he wasn't interested in a girlfriend right then but not long after he starts hanging out with Makenzie and discovered that with the right girl having a girlfriend was wonderful!

At the Summer 2021 beach trip I dive through some waves and let my wet hair out of a bun at the beach and Blythe says, “Wow, this is wild and crazy mom!"

Describing his dressing style Scotia says, "Taye is a white boy with an aggressive tan."

Driving and eating in the car Scotia told Blythe, "I've been eating goldfish longer than you've been alive."

Scotia came into my room early on a Saturday morning needing a ride to school for a track meet.
Scotia, "It's time for you to wake up."
Me, "I know, I'm getting up."
Scotia, "I'm going to stand here until I see you get up."
Oh brother. Getting fed a little of my own parenting medicine in my old age....

Playing HORSE with all the kids in the driveway.  When I get to HO I say, I'm a ho. All the kids say,  "That's not a new joke Mom." Then when Taye is HO Blythe says, "You're a ho" and Taye says, "No, I'm a ho maker."  Funny kids.

Taye, when he's headed to the River Run pool. "I need to play some aggressive pool basketball" (It's a great combination of all things he loves - outdoors, water, competition, exercise)

Blythe told a neighbor mom who was angry with one of her kids, "It's okay, sometimes my mom gets frustrated with me too."

The day before college Jaxon comes upstairs early in the morning with a big smile, almost giddy, “It’s my last full day at home."  I reply, "Yep, you will never be back as a kid after today." He told me his list of last minute errands and then headed back to the basement. I was so lucky to be the mom of Jaxon Brown.

Taye is telling me about a public health assignment where he must design a learning module that would teach college students about safe sex practices.  He is telling me about the section on consent and says, "Mom, it's so much more than just getting a yes, you have to learn to read the room."  Then he mentioned that he's always known that... Thank you Taye.

The dentist asked Jaxon if he was drinking lots of Gatorade? Jaxon responded, "Yeah, can you tell what flavor?"

During Covid when Scotia is cooking every day she says, "I'm never cooking again, everyone eats everything I make!"

Divorced

Maybe you figured something was up and maybe not.  Tyrone and I have been separated for four years (2 years during covid just living in our house with all the kids, and two years Tyrone living in a condo we purchased nearby) now and just finalized the divorce this spring.  Compared to what I usually hear it was a pretty easy process and I think we are doing a fantastic job taking care of our kids together!  I'm super proud of us!  I feel so light and free and happy and confident.  And I've been on a few dates... all which were super fun and enjoyable and relaxing.  So happy with my life at this stage.  And a few cute date outfits for you: Fancy French restaurant in Durham.  First time having a bottle of wine uncorked and poured at the table. We are both big supporters of public education.  Nearby Mexican restaurant with lots of conversation about our Canadian roots. Playing cards at a brewery in Cary.  Started off so fun and silly. ...

Appaloosa Fest 2025

Mark and Blythe and I drove north and Courtney and Christine and Nicole drove south to meet us at the Labor Day Weekend  Appaloosa Music Festival for the third year in a row.  Georgia's dad's (Ben) band was playing !  They sounded amazing!  Mark's favorite of the whole weekend. Scythian played and we danced.  Then we got home to our haunted house super late and stayed up even later playing a game.  Sunday morning we hiked Knob's ridge.  And then back for a second day of music.  And Blythe taking care of the animals.  Monday morning Courtney and Nicole were feeling a little sick so they headed home.  Mark, Blythe and I hiked to the Seven Pools and then drove home too.  Great weekend! Blythe and I both had shirts on that we took from Courtney's good will  pile last time we were at her house.

I did not lose my faith I lost my belief

A few years ago just before Christmas Scotia asked Tyrone if Santa was real and he told her the truth. She'd been working up to it - wondering why I had a closet full of presents under a blanket, why the wrapping paper all matched, how Santa could get in the house without a proper fireplace, how could Santa make it around the world in one night, how could he get in houses without a key, why some kids got so much or so little or nothing... finally the evidence was just overwhelming and she asked Tyrone. Post Santa Christmases are just as good as Santa Christmases.  She loves helping me buy presents and she is chief wrapper now.
