A little momma bird made a nest in one of the pots outside our front door. She laid five tiny eggs. And we all checked in on them obsessively while we waited for them to hatch.
The mom seemed pretty chill but once those babies arrived she wore herself out bringing caterpillars and bugs to feed them all.
A few days ago we came home and the now very large, very squished teenage birds were gone. A few were stuck down in the metal pot- we carefully set it on the deck so they could get out. They are all off now - heading to bigger and better spaces.
Seems like a fitting metaphor for the last decade in our safe little house.

ReplyDeleteThat picture is priceless.
That mother bird choose for her home a small pot just outside your busy front door. She must have felt it would be a safe place to lay her eggs and raise her babies.
So much happens in such a short time in a bird's life. One day they are tiny eggs and in a very short time they have grown large enough to leave the nest.
They are Little Brown Birds. Always hungry, very lively, wrestling for space, living in a small house with a mother(and father) tiring herself out helping them to grow healthy and strong so they can launch themselves into the world( with a little help from friends). It happened so fast.
Thank you mother bird for sharing this perspective on parenting as the Brown family leaves their comfortable little house filled with happy memories and lots of growth.
The little nest is being left behind, as you all launch into this next phase of your lives.
