Merry Christmas to me...

Today was the first day of Christmas "vacation". Which means I now have two wonderful weeks of kids home all the time, everyday. And we have no company coming so no distractions or possible babysitters either.

To add to my season of joy, I found this lovely letter (instead of some cute Christmas cards) when I checked the mail today. I am a stay at home mom, I take care of my children, I help my neighbours, I pick up litter and put it in the garbage, I'm friendly to everyone, I'm busy trying to send good vibes out into the universe and in exchange the universe gave me a big kick in the pants.

Apparently on my way to church two weeks ago I failed to come to a complete stop before making a right turn out in the middle of nowhere at 8:54 am on a Sunday morning. The universe taped me doing so and then sent me this lovely bill. As a stay at home mom and a primary president, I walk a thin line between sanity and a mental hospital - they should have a rule against this. (Why can't the camera catch me being on time for church with my lessons prepared, snacks packed and my kids dressed)

Finally, my vacuum stopped working and so I am now the proud owner of a shiny new very red vacuum. Thank you Santa! It's just what I was dreaming of...

Bah Humbug!

  1. Just know that the heavenly cameras (you know, the ones that REALLY count) caught the good you have done. Now if only they could get you out of the fine.

I hope your family has a wonderful Christmas!

  3. if it makes you feel any better we are poor students with a laughable monthly ummm income if you want to call it that, and i got a $20 parking ticket while at the iwk doing my glucose blood work, then we got a letter from the student loan place (since we now get that laughable income) saying that we won't get anymore $ in the new year and we need to pay back a bunch they already gave us. and for christmas i got a terrible cold. so i second the BAH HUMBUG. but am well aware that it can always get worse, hopefully it won't though. i'm pretty grateful for my amazing hubby and soon to be baby, family and friends, sweet warm apt, and $4 sheets from walmart that i turned into curtains (thanks hannah). also thanks for the sweet baby items, they will really come in handy, we all really loved the little picture book! hope that things just get better for you! (and me too)

Divorced

Maybe you figured something was up and maybe not.  Tyrone and I have been separated for four years (2 years during covid just living in our house with all the kids, and two years Tyrone living in a condo we purchased nearby) now and just finalized the divorce this spring.  Compared to what I usually hear it was a pretty easy process and I think we are doing a fantastic job taking care of our kids together!  I'm super proud of us!  I feel so light and free and happy and confident.  And I've been on a few dates... all which were super fun and enjoyable and relaxing.  So happy with my life at this stage.  And a few cute date outfits for you: Fancy French restaurant in Durham.  First time having a bottle of wine uncorked and poured at the table. We are both big supporters of public education.  Nearby Mexican restaurant with lots of conversation about our Canadian roots. Playing cards at a brewery in Cary.  Started off so fun and silly. ...

Appaloosa Fest 2025

Mark and Blythe and I drove north and Courtney and Christine and Nicole drove south to meet us at the Labor Day Weekend  Appaloosa Music Festival for the third year in a row.  Georgia's dad's (Ben) band was playing !  They sounded amazing!  Mark's favorite of the whole weekend. Scythian played and we danced.  Then we got home to our haunted house super late and stayed up even later playing a game.  Sunday morning we hiked Knob's ridge.  And then back for a second day of music.  And Blythe taking care of the animals.  Monday morning Courtney and Nicole were feeling a little sick so they headed home.  Mark, Blythe and I hiked to the Seven Pools and then drove home too.  Great weekend! Blythe and I both had shirts on that we took from Courtney's good will  pile last time we were at her house.

I did not lose my faith I lost my belief

A few years ago just before Christmas Scotia asked Tyrone if Santa was real and he told her the truth. She'd been working up to it - wondering why I had a closet full of presents under a blanket, why the wrapping paper all matched, how Santa could get in the house without a proper fireplace, how could Santa make it around the world in one night, how could he get in houses without a key, why some kids got so much or so little or nothing... finally the evidence was just overwhelming and she asked Tyrone. Post Santa Christmases are just as good as Santa Christmases.  She loves helping me buy presents and she is chief wrapper now.
