My legs hurt

You know how some weeks just seem to be a mass collision of every important "to do" item you have on the books. That was this week.

Most of you know that I have this little part time job, or more like a mini-job. I'm a stay at home mom 355 days a year, and the other 10 days I work for BYU Independent Study as a field rep. That means I visit local high schools and talk to counselors who use us or should be using us. My work also includes a three day counselors conference in the fall where I man a booth handing out the ever popular stress ball and talking to counselors. That conference was this week - Wed - Friday. It's in Greensboro, which is about one and half hours away. So each day I got up early, drove to Greensboro, visited schools before or after if I had time, worked at the conference talking to hundreds of counselors, drove home, wrote reports and did other work, then got up the next morning and did it again. I do enjoy my work because it give me a nice little break from the kids (I'm always glad to see them when I get home) and it makes Tyrone appreciate me more! That would have made for a fine but busy week if not for....

The Primary Program. So all week I've been sending out coordinating emails, finishing up final edits to be prepared for the primary activity at the church this morning.

But first... I had to go running to prepare for the 1/2 marathon I'm running week after next. I met my friends at 7 and we started out on our 10 mile run. Longest ten miles ever - just kept going and going and going - and it was raining of course. Got home late with one minute to shower and get dressed and get three kids to the church for the activity. My legs were still wobbly but we made it through our practise, our service project and lunch served by the bishopric. I did sit down on the floor briefly to visit with some kids while eating my lunch.

This afternoon after I put Scotia down for nap and the boys were out playing I did a little cleaning - a real floor sweeping, some vacuuming, a little window washing, some laundry catching up. And then at around 2:30 - nearly five hours after my achingly long run I sat down on my bedroom floor to fold a basket of clothes. Heaven on earth!

I miss my Mom already. In pre-mission days if I had a long drive for BYU visits I would call her to visit. Not anymore.

And, I can almost guarantee that my mom will leave a comment or send me an email saying what a hard worker I am. What I would really like to be is a bum on my couch, with a drink, a remote, and the fireplace going. Some year....

Tomorrow I'll try to post a cute video of my primary practising songs today.

  2. You ARE a hard worker! Just reading your blog makes me think I need to go take a rest. ;)

My parents are planning a mission next year, and I ache to think how much I'll miss them! Hopefully it flies by for you.

Divorced

Maybe you figured something was up and maybe not.  Tyrone and I have been separated for four years (2 years during covid just living in our house with all the kids, and two years Tyrone living in a condo we purchased nearby) now and just finalized the divorce this spring.  Compared to what I usually hear it was a pretty easy process and I think we are doing a fantastic job taking care of our kids together!  I'm super proud of us!  I feel so light and free and happy and confident.  And I've been on a few dates... all which were super fun and enjoyable and relaxing.  So happy with my life at this stage.  And a few cute date outfits for you: Fancy French restaurant in Durham.  First time having a bottle of wine uncorked and poured at the table. We are both big supporters of public education.  Nearby Mexican restaurant with lots of conversation about our Canadian roots. Playing cards at a brewery in Cary.  Started off so fun and silly. ...

Appaloosa Fest 2025

Mark and Blythe and I drove north and Courtney and Christine and Nicole drove south to meet us at the Labor Day Weekend  Appaloosa Music Festival for the third year in a row.  Georgia's dad's (Ben) band was playing !  They sounded amazing!  Mark's favorite of the whole weekend. Scythian played and we danced.  Then we got home to our haunted house super late and stayed up even later playing a game.  Sunday morning we hiked Knob's ridge.  And then back for a second day of music.  And Blythe taking care of the animals.  Monday morning Courtney and Nicole were feeling a little sick so they headed home.  Mark, Blythe and I hiked to the Seven Pools and then drove home too.  Great weekend! Blythe and I both had shirts on that we took from Courtney's good will  pile last time we were at her house.

I did not lose my faith I lost my belief

A few years ago just before Christmas Scotia asked Tyrone if Santa was real and he told her the truth. She'd been working up to it - wondering why I had a closet full of presents under a blanket, why the wrapping paper all matched, how Santa could get in the house without a proper fireplace, how could Santa make it around the world in one night, how could he get in houses without a key, why some kids got so much or so little or nothing... finally the evidence was just overwhelming and she asked Tyrone. Post Santa Christmases are just as good as Santa Christmases.  She loves helping me buy presents and she is chief wrapper now.
